Get to Know NBA History

NBA is the most popular basketball league in the world, here is NBA history. Starting on June 6, 1946, as a regional league, it has now grown to become one of the major sports leagues in North America. Today there are 30 teams from both U.S and Canada which compete for a championship every season and remain a well-known event for NBA fans with each game being broadcasted live on TV channels all over the world.

The first-ever game was between Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens (Toronto) where Toronto won by 43 points. The league was originally composed of 13 teams, but as time passed five teams merged to make it 18 number by 1950.

The first NBA season was also held in 1946-47, which saw the Chicago Stags emerge victorious while the Baltimore Bullets won the second title in 1948. In 1949 major changes were made in NBA when it added a few more teams and changed the league format to two divisions with each team playing each other once. However, two divisions of best teams who played in a single division had emerged by 1951-52 season as they played each other twice a year.
